15th Sep 21 – Sometimes your day doesn’t always go to plan

Sometimes your day doesn’t always go to plan, but look on the bright side, you might have a cool story to tell!

Three years ago when visiting my friends in Toronto, they decided to take me out on Lake Ontario for the day. After renting our Kayaks we set out to explore the Toronto Islands.

Unfortunately, as we were headed back to Toronto harbour, the wind picked up. Heading back across the lake, my kayak capsized and sent me plunging into the lake fully clothed! Much to my dismay, my phone was gone (with all my boarding passes in my email etc.).

My friend Greig towed me back to the shore, careful to avoid the boats carrying tourists coming in and out of the islands. I dusted myself down, got back in my kayak and headed back out into the open water.

Around 15 mins had passed when Greigs wife – Lynsey – spots a small freezer bag floating in the water. Some incredible luck meant that there’d been just enough air to allow the bag with my phone in it to float. How incredibly lucky that we’d also bumped into it out on a busy lake?!!

Sometimes even the worst moments are worth the stories that go with them! How you perceive something can have a big impact on how you ‘feel’ about it.
