There’s a famous saying in Scotland — “if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes, it’s likely to change“. At the beginning of the hike — sun beaming down — I’ll have on shorts and a t-shirt. And then shortly after, the clouds roll in, the wind picks up — out comes the waterproofs.
CONENT COMING APRIL 2021
Nature is unpredictable and we need to respect the power and strength she exerts at times. Heading out into the wilderness alone is great for the mind, but it can also be dangerous if not done safely.
One of the things that stopped me truly experiencing the wilderness was my lack of experience and knowledge. I feel really strongly about pushing my comfort limits, seeing what I’m really capable of doing. There’s so many incredible national parks, mountains and valleys I want to experience, but I don’t feel confident enough in my skills to take them on.
Rather than accept that limitation, I’m now preparing for my Summer Mountain Leader qualification. I believe that the process I need to go through to achieve this will provide me with the skills I need to feel comfortable taking on some of the worlds most challenging hikes.
Not only will I be sharing my knowledge and experience as I go through this process, I’ll also be speaking to some of the most experienced mountaineers. I hope that by sharing this information, you can also enjoy the mountains safely.
